About Zaliah - Professional Belly Dancer
Zaliah has been dancing for over 13 years & professionally for more than 10 years.
She has been taught by some of the UK’s top belly dance teachers including Kharis & Zehara. Zaliah has also trained with international teacher and choreographer Raqia Hassan, Yasmina of Cairo & Sharon Kihara from the Belly Dance Super Stars
She started to learn Belly Dancing because she was desperate to have the confidence & skills to be able to express herself through the music she loved. Her boyfriend at the time was a Ballerina!! They spent a lot of their nights out in Rock World in Manchester, (in fact she still goes sometimes to let rip!) he was a great dancer; obviously he didn’t piroet along to Iron Maiden, but she knew the skills he gained from learning ballet gave him the confidence to dance to anything, anywhere. Zaliah used to stand at the edge of the dance floor dying to get up & have a good dance but felt she just couldn’t, lacking in confidence & feeling frustrated she decided to learn a form of dance & it was Belly Dance.
In 1997, after she had only been learning Belly dance for a few months, Zaliah has her ultimate test! She was asked by the psychedelic rock band Hawkwind (great favourites of hers) to dance on stage with them on a UK tour! She performed at several shows in Autumn 1997 to hundreds of people at each gig. This was a massive turning point for her, both personally & professionally & it marked the start of her dancing career!
Zaliah loves to dance, she has gone to perform with Hawkwind several more times & with other bands! She also dances at many types of events & is a sought after belly dance teacher.
